Lisa and Brett’s Real Life Wedding
Lisa McConnell and Brett Cole
Our wedding day, when it finally arrived, was a beautiful sunny February day. I wasn’t a nervous as I had expected to be, but when I walked in to the Tythe Barn at the Gatwick Manor in Crawley and saw rows of people turning to look at me, I willed Brett to turn around, knowing that if I focussed on him it would be OK! When he finally turned around, he turned away again almost immediately, and he later told me it was because when he saw me he was overcome with emotion and didn’t want to cry! As it turns out I was the one who cried during my vows, but only with happiness, you understand!
The reception was perfect. All my hard work organising the little details (I made all the invitations, order of service, name cards, menus and favours by hand) had paid off and the room looked lovely. The day passed so quickly but we both had a wonderful time and got to speak to most of our 120 guests. One of the highlights was our first dance, to Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get it On, when an exploding balloon showered mini balloons and confetti all over the dance floor!
If I had done anything differently, I would have made the wedding last two days instead of one! It was the happiest day of our lives.
