Megan & Matthew’s Traditional Silver and White Family Affair at the Birchwood Park Golf Club
A chance meeting at a taxi queue outside a bar, then a Christmas engagement surrounded by family and friends, and then a traditional silver and ivory sun-flooded wedding among the lush greenery of the Birchwood Park Golf Club – see Megan and Matthew’s special day!
Couple: Megan, nanny, and Matthew, quantity surveyor
Length of engagement: 18 months
Wedding date: 16 June 2012
Wedding ceremony: St John the Baptist Church – Sutton at Hone
Wedding reception: Birchwood Park Golf Centre, Kent
Wedding photography: Matt Rock Photography
We met… in a bar in Blackheath, well actually outside the bar in the cab queue afterwards, Matt having carried Megan’s friend through the town in a firemans carry! Quick exchange of numbers before the cab arrived and that was that.
First impressions of your husband… comical, friendly and sociable and a little drunk (see firemans carry story)!
His first impressions of you… fun, likes a laugh and sexy. Although slightly disappointed that she didn’t live near me as it would have halved my cab fare!
Your proposal… Christmas Eve 2010 at our local pub surrounded by friends, Matt was slightly nervous as he arranged for everyone to be there, but the big question was asked at home, away from the audience.
Your ceremony was… a traditional church service, with a very sweet Lady Vicar.
What were your wedding theme/colours… silver, traditional theme. Birchwood looked amazing! We enjoyed having friends play a large part in our wedding. Megan’s friends helped with decorations, make-up, hair and even persuaded one of their husbands to sparkle clean his BMW (white of course), decorate it and become the driver for the day.
How did Confetti.co.uk help in your big day… we bought our table decorations from the Confetti shop.
What was your dress like… strapless, fitted, cream colour, only the third dress I tried, so I was lucky to quickly find the dress I wanted.
Who were your bridesmaids/groomsmen… Ellie, Sian, Yasmin (Megans nieces) and Winnifred (Matts niece) were bridesmaids. Sean, Matt’s best friend, was Best Man.
We chose our venue because… it was local, great facilities, very helpful staff, picturesque. Birchwood couldn’t have done more for us, Philippa was great at keeping us informed throughout the process and with the backdrop of the stunning course (Matt has lost more than a few balls round here), we knew instantly we wanted the wedding there. As soon as we sat down with Philippa and saw what Birchwood could offer then we almost instantly paid the deposit!
Your favourite part of the wedding… the reception! It was great to see all of our family and friends together celebrating our big day. We had little or no cancellations so everyone we wanted to be there, was there. Again, the room looked stunning and very relaxed atmosphere meant we could enjoy it rather than be panicking about the way it was organised (thanks again to Philippa and her team). We appreciated that our wedding was a celebration rather than a service and the reception had the right party feel that we wanted.
What was the song for the first dance? It Means Nothing by the Stereophonics
