Rebecca and David, 2010 Real Wedding Story
Rebecca and David
24/07/2004 – Our Lady of Lourdes Church
Harpenden House Hotel, Hertfordshire
How and when did you meet?
We met at work. David was a new employee and I was his manager. I had the most amazing black eye the day we met but he fell in love with me from the first moment! He emailed me 15 days later to ask me out for a drink hoping I would say yes and wouldn’t report him to the management!
Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?
David proposed on 28th December 2002. He filled the room with candles and made a centre display of a circle of night lights with a circle of dinner candles just inside. In the middle was a box containing my engagement ring. I came into the room and thought the gesture of all the candles was lovely. He asked me to blow out the centre display as it was melting. I did that and discovered the box in the middle. He got down on one knee and said he couldn’t live without me and would I be his wife. I cried and said yes!
Did you have hen and stag celebrations?
I had a meal and drinks with my friends. David went to Thorpe Park with his mates on the day before the wedding.
Did your groom help you with the wedding planning?
David did his best and gave his opinion. Probably like most men, he really couldn’t get into the planning of the colour schemes etc. but always offered to help when it was needed.
Did you use confetti to plan your wedding? If so, what did you use and what products did you buy?
I used confetti for my budget planner and the countdown of things to do.
Do you have a confetti web page?
I have a page on confetti and in the powder room.
Did you buy any confetti products for your wedding? If so, did you visit a store, buy online or by mail order?
We bought confetti cameras, table trivia, and bubbles online. We couldn’t fault the service.
Tell us about your dress
My dress was ‘Dion’ by Maggie Sottero with a full length veil.
Did you have bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what did they wear?
I had a page boy and flower girl and an adult bridesmaid. I chose most of the outfits but did speak to my sister (adult bridesmaid) about her dress.
What did your groom and his best man and ushers wear?
My brother and nephew were the ushers and David chose a very close friend as his best man. They all wore suits from Debenhams.
Did you decide upon a civil or religious ceremony?
We chose to have a Catholic Service.
Where did you hold your ceremony?
The ceremony was held in Our Lady of Lourdes.
Where did you hold your reception?
The reception was held at a local hotel.
Did you have any special wedding transport?
I had a vintage Rolls Royce.
How many guests did you invite to your wedding, and did you have a separate evening guest list?
There were 79 day guests and about 100 in total for the evening.
Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?
The whole wedding was blue and white. Our table decorations were mostly white with blue and white flowers.
Did you give your guests favours?
We decided not to have favours, but the children were given a goody bag each.
Describe your flowers (bouquets and table decorations). Who was your florist?
The flowers were all very simple with hand tied bouquets.
What did you choose to have on your menu? Did you have an outside caterer or did your venue handle the catering?
The hotel did the catering and we had a dressed buffet so people could choose what they wanted.
What did you choose for your wedding cake?
Our cake was fantastic. It was very traditional – a white tiered cake with a bride and groom on the top and silver horseshoes and rings on the sides.
Did you have any entertainment during the day or evening?
We had a disco in the evening.
Did you have a gift list? If so, who did you have your list with?
We held our gift list with Debenhams.
Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon?
Our first night was spent in the country suite at the hotel.
What was your most memorable moment of the day?
The most memorable moment was walking down the aisle and seeing David, and then him telling me I was beautiful .
Is there anything you would do differently, or any advice you would give to other brides?
Don’t panic! Enjoy the planning as the day is over so quickly. Also remember it is your day so have what you want to have. The only other thing I would have changed would have been to have the wedding a month earlier – David’s grandmother died 2 weeks before the wedding.
