Rebecca and James 2006 Real Engagement Story
James and I met on 18th June 2000 in the Kahlua bar in Ayia Napa, Cyprus. I was on holiday with 10 of my girlfriends from Bristol and he was with 14 of his friends from Manchester, it was 3 days before I was due to head home when we met.
I was dancing in the street and had stumbled on a hole in the road, James saw me and started laughing, I went over to him, and we started talking and talking and found we were telling each other our life stories!
We then spent every spare minute together until I had to go home, James was staying another week in Ayia Napa and every night he would ‘phone me to see how I was.
He flew home to Manchester on the following Wednesday and that Friday night he caught a train down to Bristol Temple Meads. Our reunion at the station was like something out of a love story as we both saw each other, he dropped his suitcase, and we ran down the platform into each others.
We had a fantastic weekend together and then from that moment took it in turns to commute between Bristol and Manchester, 3.5 hours each way on a train but it was worth it. Sunday nights were the worst, having to say goodbye to each other for another week we were always in tears.
After 3 months of being together, I put my house on the market and managed to transfer internally with my job and in October, we moved into a beautiful house in Sale together.
We have been happy ever since and the happiest day of my life was on Christmas day when James gave me a large present. I opened it and inside was a teddy bear, inside the teddy bear was a small box, as I pulled out the small box from the teddies tummy, James took it from my hand, dropped to one knee and in front of 12 of my family asked me to marry him. In flood of tears, I said yes!
We are getting married on 17th August 2002 in my parent’s village church in Trellech, South Wales and I have never been so happy.
We are off back to Ayia Napa in 46 days time and really can’t wait to return to all the romantic places that are so special to us.
