Rhiannon and Danny Real Engagement Story
Your first name?
Rhiannon
Your partner’s first name?
Danny
Date of proposal
20/04/08
How old were you both when you got engaged?
27 and 20
Who proposed?
Danny
How did your partner (or you) propose?
As we met at university, he took me to the terrace in front of the Old Building of Bangor University. With all of Bangor below us in the dusk, he got down on one knee and asked (very traditionally!) if I would do him the honour of being his wife.
Who did you share the news of your engagement with first?
The first person who knew was one of the barmaids in a student pub in the town as we went straight there to buy a bottle of champagne! When we got home we shared it with our house mates and called our parents.
Describe your ring.
It’s a white gold cross over ring with two brilliant cut claw set diamonds totally 1/4 carat.
Did you help choose the ring?
Yes. We’d been visiting Dan’s family in Yorkshire (sadly for a family funeral) and it seemed like the perfect time to go shopping. It was nice to be able to show the ring to his Mum before we got engaged as it gave the whole family something to be cheerful about after quite a sad time.
Will your partner wear an engagement ring as well?
No. He doesn’t wear jewellery so he’s happy to wait for the wedding ring.
Did you have an engagement party?
We had a small impromptu gathering of friends here in Bangor. We’ll probably organise something for our families during the summer.
When do you plan to marry?
We’ve set a provisional date of May 22nd 2010. That means I’ll be married before I’m 30 (just!).
What are you looking forward to the most about planning a wedding?
I think we’re both looking forward to making a day which celebrates our life together. We’ve got lots of joint friends from our time at university so it will certainly be a relaxed and fun day for everyone to get together and have a good time!
