  Vicky and Paul's Wedding

How and when did you meet?

We met in August 1997, in a pub in our home town. We clicked instantly but it took us a month before we got together.

How old are you both?

I am 27 (I was 26 when we married) and Paul is 29.

Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?

He proposed in July 2003, in my parents’ front room. He had already asked their permission, but waited until they had left the room before he actually did it!

Did you have hen and stag celebrations?

I went to Brighton for a weekend, with 6 friends and also went to a Greek Restaurant with the mums and some family. Paul went to Nottingham with about 20 friends and also arranged a golf match for our dads and their friends who all play golf.

Did your groom help you with the wedding planning?

He was allowed a little say in what he wore. He chose the table names (football grounds) and did the play list for the DJ.

Did you use confetti to plan your wedding? If so, how did the website help you?

I loved the To Do lists! And the forums were WAY too addictive! Even now, I am known to lurk about and try my best to give advice to those still planning!

Do you have a confetti web page?

Yes.

Did you buy any confetti products for your wedding? If so, did you visit a store, buy online or by mail order?

We bought ribbon, a guest book and some cufflinks. We bought them online and the delivery time was superb.

Tell us about your outfit, and where you bought it.

I loved my dress! It was the complete opposite of what I thought I would have picked. I bought it from Creations by Gail in Letchworth, Herts and she was a star. It was an ivory silk dupion princess line dress with beads and gold embroidery on the bodice and down the back. It had quite a long train, although not unmanageable. I had a waist-length veil and a tiara.

Did you have bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what did they wear?

I had 4 adult bridesmaids: Anna (Paul’s sister), Jodie (my cousin), Sarah, (My Matron of Honour) and Naomi (my Chief Bridesmaid) and they wore gold Samantha Jane bodices and skirts. They were quite tight fitting, strapless with a split on the skirt to the knee. My 3 little bridesmaids wore ivory and gold dresses from Debenhams

Who did your groom choose for his best man and ushers, and what did they wear?

Paul chose his best friend Stuart as best man. He had my brother Steven and two friends that he used to live with, Will and Garry as ushers. Will and Garry did the best man’s speech and were hilarious with props and everything!

Did you have a civil or religious ceremony?

A religious ceremony in my childhood church. I had done readings there at Christmas as a child.

Where did you hold your ceremony?

All Saints Church, in Melbourn., in Melbourn.

Where did you hold your reception?

Bluntswood Hall, Throcking, near Buntingford.

Did you have any special wedding transport?

We used the car of a friend, a Ford Pilot and a stretch limo for all of the bridesmaids!

How many guests did you invite to your wedding, and did you have a separate evening guest list?

We had about 120 people to the church and meal and then about another 100 in the evening.

Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?

Our colour scheme was gold, burgundy and ivory. We tried to keep using hearts as these featured on our invites.

How did you incorporate this in to your table settings?

We had place names, menus and table names to match the invitations. We did goody bags for the kids and these were big burgundy and gold gift bags. We had low circular flower arrangements of burgundy gerberas (actually made up of plate splatter covers!)

Did you give your guests favours?

ladies had little key rings and the men had bags of chocolate footballs.

Describe your flowers (bouquets and table decorations). Who was your florist?

I had deep burgundy grand prix roses in a posy and the bridesmaids had cream roses in a posy. The little bridesmaids had balls of red and cream roses on ribbon.

What did you choose to have on your menu? Did you have an outside caterer or did your venue handle the catering?

We had ‘homemade’ vegetable soup, roast lamb with roast and new potatoes, vegetables and mint and redcurrant sauce and then a dessert table featuring profiteroles, lemon cheesecake, raspberry pavlova and fruit salad. Our venue provided the catering.

What did you choose for your wedding cake?

We had a three-tier cake: one fruit, one chocolate and one lemon; it featured burgundy hearts and roses made of icing and had personalised people on the top. The groom was wearing a Man Utd. shirt and the bride’s dress was an exact replica of mine. The cake got lots of comments. It was made by a friend of a friend.

Did you have any entertainment during the day or evening?

We had a guitar and flute duo playing as we arrived at our reception venue and throughout the meal. In the evening we had a fire juggler that my mum had arranged as a surprise to everyone (including my Dad!)

Did you have a gift list? If so, who did you have your list with?

We had a gift list with Debenhams and they were superb.

Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon? Who did you book your honeymoon with?

We spent our first night in a local hotel and went to Tenerife for a week. My Aunt has timeshare and so we used a week for our wedding present from her.

What was your most memorable moment of the day?

Walking down the aisle, Paul was crying as I got to the top and that was a moment that I will never forget!

Did you experience any ‘nightmare’ moments in the run up to your wedding or on the day?

My car overheated on the way to the church and I was about 15 minutes late. Of course, my bridesmaids and my mum had already left so didn’t realise anything was wrong. They thought I may have changed my mind!

Is there anything you would do differently, or any advice you would give to other brides?

Enjoy every second, from the proposal, through all of the planning and savour the day as it goes so fast. I bought a new perfume just for the day and now every time I wear it, I am reminded of my fantastic wedding day.
